The Eat Out Awards 2013 are dedicated to the high street pub and restaurant market, celebrating the very best business practice in this fast-moving sector. The awards took place at Kensington Roof Gardens on Thursday 24th January.

Jamie’s Italian and JD Wetherspoon have been named the Nation’s Favourite Restaurant and Pub Brands at the Eat Out Awards 2013.

After teaming up with Livebookings, the search began in October to find the pub and restaurant brands consumers love the most. Voting closed in December and over 5,000 votes were received.

Clare Riley, editor of Eat Out magazine, said the winning brands are two of the most successful companies in the sector: “It’s great to see Jamie’s Italian and JD Wetherspoon taking home these awards. To be voted the nation’s favourite entirely by consumers is something to be very proud of.”

The awards evening, also saw another eight awards presented. Here’s the full list of winners:

Something for the weekend….La Tasca

As you would know from previously blogs I love tapas. Recently I went to La Tasca a well know spanish restaraunt chain. I went to the restaurant over in Bluewater.

The restaurant is incredibly friendly yet allows for quiet chats over your tapas, or looks of love over a paella. The staff are very helpful and are happy to help advise on the house specialities. With the dim lighting and mish mash of different seats and tables and deep Mediterranean colours the decor is simply perfect. If you mix that with the odd ,yet amusing conversation with your Spanish waitress you almost forget you are situated in the heart of a shopping centre.

I ordered several dishes off the Tapas menu with my friend. These included – Croquetas de Pollo, Tortilla Espanola, Patatas Bravas and Paella del dia.  Of course this had to be accompanied with a glass of Sangria.

My favourite dish is always hands down the Croquetas de Pollo. Croquetas are a lightly breaded and fried sort of fritter. In the case of La Tasca their Croquetas de Pollo are filled with a succulent creamy chicken. They are so so yummy, my friend and I had to order a second portion!

I would also recommend their Albodigas, which are beef and pork meatballs in a rich spicy tomato sauce. These absolutely melt in your mouth and the sauce is nicely spicy without giving you too much of a kick to the taste buds.

Although not typically spanish in my opinion I did have the most amazing desert there – the chocolate fondant. The fondant is served with a dollop of vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce also dressing the plate. Wow! when you place your spoon into this chocolately treat the sauce ooozes from within. Perfect!

One thing to remember with La Tasca is their loyalty card! The La Tasca loyalty card is great because you get 20% off your food. If you are a loyalty card holder you also can receive special offers and promotions both on their site and straight to your email. Like for November you receive free bread and oils, just remember to show the staff when you order.
