A #backofthefridge dinner…..

You know what it’s like when you haven’t been shopping because pay day is still a day away. You reach for the left over ingredients in the fridge. Well tonight I did exactly that and rustled up sheer heaven!

You Will Need:

  • 100 grams of bacon strips/lardons
  • 1 red onion, diced
  • 2 tablespoons of Philadelphia
  • 2 tablespoons of Saint Agur spreadable
  • 50ml of milk
  • pasta

Preparation Method:

  • put on your saucepan of water and add pasta, boil for ten mins
  • fry your diced red onion for two minutes
  • now add your bacon and fry for four minutes
  • add your Philadelphia and Saint Agur and let it melt in for a minute
  • add you milk
  • simmer for three minutes
  • now fold in to the sauce your pasta

Something for the weekend….Zizi

Last saturday was my friends Hen Do! We decided to head off to Zizi.

Zizis is a chain of Italian restaurants. Despite being another pizza and pasta chain, it looks, tastes and feels very different and feels quite up market, which makes a refreshing change. Prices are pretty average with starters ranging from about 3-4 pounds and mains ranging from 5 to 8 pounds. As we were a big group on a hen do we thought we would take advantage of the £16.95 menu. This menu gives you three courses and a Lemoncelli shot to finish.

To start we a sharing starter. This consisted of garlic bread both plain and with cheese and also a platter of cured meats and olives. YUM!

For the mains there are quite a selection to choose from including Ravioli de Capra, Risotto Funghi and a selection of wood-stone oven pizzas. I chose the Diavola pizza which was topped with hot pepperoni, hot roquito and green chillis. It was pretty hot, but just right for my taste buds.

For pudding I decided to go with the Tiramisu. A popular Italian favourite. Although the flavour was lovely to this pudding, the texture and look of the dish wasnt quite to my taste. I wonder if this was pre-cooked and simply plonked on a plate to order.

All in all the service at the venue was great and the staff were brilliantly accommodating especially as this was a hen do.

I would say definitely check out your nearest Zizis – www.zizzi.co.uk
